The Color Festival

First of all, I have to say I ♥ Spring! It is my favorite season (summer a very close second). I love that winter is over, I love the warmth, I love that everyone in Utah comes out and plays. I just love the feeling. So when we heard about the Festival of Colors (which celebrates the start of spring) I was so excited! The Festival of Colors is celebrated by the Hindu religion, but they invite anyone to come. It's their way of welcoming spring anything to bring spring quicker is alright in my book.  Luckily they do it here in Utah as well. This last Saturday, Paul, Jaxon, Kade and I celebrated Holi aka Color Fest at the Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork (along with the rest of Utah and probably half of Idaho).

This is a pretty huge event. It had a hippy feel to it. Basically, you buy powdered chalk and everyone throws it everywhere. It's packed and completely chaotic and wonderful. Who wouldn't want to be covered in chalk? Unfortunately, we didn't realize how nuts it would be and missed a bit at the beginning and they did run out of chalk but we could see the giant pink cloud of smoke rise above the temple. When we got there, I dropped off Kade and Paul. Everyone was so nice and gave Kade some of their chalk to throw and even asked him before they would throw it at them. I wasn't exactly sure it would be a good idea for the 10 month old to get covered in chalk so Jax and I were on the sidelines but got to witness all the craziness! Paul and Kade looked awesome. I only had 1 person throw the chalk at me and they did it to my back. I was so impressed with how great & nice everyone was. We will definitely need to do this again sometime! Maybe next year we will get there early to sample the food and music and all the festivities. Supposedly there were projected to be 50,000 people. I believe it! We Loved it!

Paul and Kade after being in the pit... Kade was a little scared at first but then had fun!
This was while they were throwing the chalk!

PS... the girls had a day out with their babysitter Cheyenne. They went to see Alice in Wonderland, went to dinner and build a bear. They didn't miss out too much.
