Kade is baptized

Kade turned eight and chose to be baptized in our church. He chose to have his dad baptize him and his grandpa confirm him.  His nana and poppy came all the way from California. It was a beautiful day and we are so proud of Kade and the decision he made today. We love you Kade.

Afterward at his party, the uncles and Poppy were showing all the boys how protected his cousin was up at college :)

Kades lego project

Kade's teachers post fun pictures of what they're doing in class. On this day,
they did a Lego Challenges where they created a marble maze because it makes the students think critically, find solutions to problems, and authentically use their Spanish language as they communicate together.  Kade loved it!

Cub Scouts First Derby

Kade has been so excited to go to cub scouts and their first activity was a rocket launch derby. He was pretty proud of his and then it went so high it disappeared over the houses. The leaders told him it was the highest they had ever seen.

Paul Helped him make it.
It was awesome!

Happy 8th Birthday

Its great to be eight. For Kade's 8th birthday, mom had to go back to work but before she left, Kade got breakfast in bed: eggs, bacon and toast. Chey took him with his siblings to see Planes at the theater and then Dairy Queen Blizzards. That night, Kade chose dinner at Chili's. Then we came home for presents. It was a great eighth birthday.

1 year diabetes-versary

One year ago today, Kade was diagnosed with T1 diabetes. A year ago today, I thought our lives were over (dramatic yes but honestly how I felt for a while). Today we celebrate that it wasn't the end of life. Most days feel perfectly normal and most people would never guess he has it. His life is perfectly normal and he's happy, sometimes we even forget :) Technology and modern medicine saved his life so today we celebrated living at the living planet aquarium and had slurpees. It was a good day. #prayingforacure

Diabetes Day Camp

Kade got to go to diabetes day camp today (and tomorrow). I LOVED hearing him so excited about all the fun and friends he made. He thought it was so great that he wasn't the only one checking blood sugars. Best money spent all summer! ❤️

I'm a boy mom

A couple weeks ago in California Kade fell at the tide pools. His hand bled a lot and he swore a shell or rock went into his hand. I couldn't see one. Today he told me it was still hurting. I looked at it, it was hard and had black in it. So I disinfected tweezers and cut it open and out popped a tiny snail shell. So weird and gross but he's so proud of it. He's such a boy.

Kades 1st grade field trip

Today was Kades field trip to Red Butte Gardens and I got to chaperone. Neither of us had ever been before. It was beautiful with lots of trails and hiking. We had a fun group.
Afterwards, we took the bus to liberty park for lunch and playtime. I love getting to hang out with my little guy :)

Dual immersion

This year, Kade has been in a dual immersion 1st grade class. He spends half his day learning English (language arts) and the second half doing math, science and history in Spanish. He has learned so much and is doing really well. His teachers put together a "Friendship Around the World" assembly. The kids showcased different Spanish cultures through dress, dance and songs.
It was one of the best kid shows we've seen. Kade did awesome and even did a dance with his friend Megan and had a speaking part.

Kade's Pump

🍀Today's our lucky day. After 8 months of 3-5 shots a day, Kade FINALLY got his pump today. He'll only need one "shot"  every 3 days. The best part is he no longer has to decide if any snack is worth a shot. He can eat whatever whenever. It's a great day! Happy St Patricks day! 🍀
After a 3 hour appointment being trained on how to use it, we took Kade to lunch to celebrate. Afterwards, we celebrated the new pump with a spur of the moment shamrock shake. This kid hasn't had a dessert not planned in 8 months. He just kept telling me how lucky he was not to have to get a shot. I'm feeling pretty lucky/grateful too 🍀

Kade's Great to be 8

This year, Kade is turning 8. Its a big year in our church as he will decide if he wants to be baptized.  Tonight was a preview called "Great to be 8" at church. They went over all the fun things that come with being eight. He can be baptized and gets to start cub scouts. I can't believe how grown up he's getting. The right is a questionairre he filled out. Apparently he wants to go on a mission to Chicago someday. Paul went there for work a while ago and he thought thats where dad had served a mission. He wants to be like his dad.

Kade Lost a Top Tooth

The boys and their rough play ended up with Kade losing a tooth. It had been semi-loose for a while but one bump and it was a goner :) Kade was thrilled.

School assembly

Every year the high school choir (the one I teach at) comes and performs an assembly for the kids. Kade was chosen to come up and help. The girl next to him was a former student of mine and asked kade if he was my son. He told me after school "Mom it freaked me out. How did she know you were my mom?" Lol. Then I showed him this picture his teacher texted me and he now thinks I have spies at school. Haha.

Kade is Seven

ThenI woke up extra early to wish this little guy a very happy birthday. He wanted pancakes for his special breakfast. We thought we had a mix but instead he got some Micky D's.
That night he wanted to go to Chuck E Cheese.
Then came home for some ice cream (mcflurry) and presents.
And opened presents

A Grumpy Kade

When a doctor tells a 6 year old to fast then show up at the lab to get a blood test at 8am, he should be sure the stupid lab really opens at 8. Now I'm stuck waiting half an hour with a grumpy, hungry 6 year old (ps I am however very thankful for DVD players in cars).

He survived, we were out of there about 10 minutes after they opened. They were really quick and it wouldn't have been bad except he wanted to eat and/or drink. His blood sugar tests came back  on the high side of normal which was good.

Swim lessons

Kade and Jaxon NEED to learn to swim. We probably spend an average of 2-3 days a week at the pool/Seven Peaks. Now as a mom of 4 kids who usually goes alone, I really want to have them swim :) today began their first swim lessons and Kade is already really close. We can wait to see how it goes!

Kades last soccer game

Today was Kade's last soccer game for the cheetahs. He has LOVED it and can't wait to come back in the fall with some of the same team. His kindergarten teacher Miss Yorke was the assistant coach and he thought it was awesome that he could (but never did to her face) call her by her first name.  His friend from church, James was on the team and his mom coached. We were lucky to be on their team. It was a great season and Kade learned a ton! Go cheetahs!
